This festival must be totally free for everybody. There is a mafia of people managing this event and making a lot of money out of it. This has to be stopped urgently. The city of Fez is purer and cleaner than these people and does not deserve this. Open your doors Fes Festival, it's time now. Quit playing around. Please publish and thanks to the view from Fez.

Totally true, I agree with that. This Festival is for Fes and the Fassi people. It has to be FREE.

What is it about some people.? The festival can not be free! It could not exist if it was. And the festival is not JUST for Fassi people. It is for the whole world. This festival is a gift from Fez to the world and in return it brings baraka to Fez and thousands of tourist dollars as well. The free concerts are there for locals who can not afford a ticket, but to expect everything for free is simply naive.

Please excuse the Anon people. They do not speak from the heart of Fassi people. It is our gift. This Festival brings joy and understanding. It is not for those who have greed so much they want for free.
Shukran Have a best weekend.

This Festival is a big robbery for the HOLY CITY OF FES. Do compare the money spent for this event each year and the real benefits that come out from it. You will find 90% for a small number of people and not more than 10% for the regular FASSI people or a SIMPLE ARTISANT for whom the tourists visit Fes indeed. I am with the two first comments.

Driss said...

It is interesting that those with small minds and no understanding of the value of this Festival are always anonymous.

The Fes festival is important for reasons way beyond money. Fes is proud to host the festival. Do nit think that the few people who complain, represent us. Shukran

The festival is about, joy, hope, compassion and understanding. It takes Fez to the world and the world to Fez. Everyone benefits.

The magic of the Fes festival of sacred music is that it allows "westerners" to come closer to the Fassis. The audience at Bab Makina are perhaps not typical of the citizens of the medina, try the Dar Tazi sufi nights for that but their warmth is present and music has no language barriers. I love the festival of sacred music and have been there for several years albeit my circumstances are such that I could only afford the opening night this year but was contented with the Dar Tazi concerts. Next year I shall be living in Fes, inchallah. Are there opportunities to get involved in the running of the festival in return for being able to see the concerts?

Hope, joy , understanding and what else? Many young people are starving, living without jobs and you're talking about joy? This festival costs millions of Dirhams for nothing. There are other priorities that must be set in the city and the list is long. Let's all have a good view of Fez!!

Fatima Zohra said...

I am sorry, but this simplistic "young people are starving...' line does not help. The Festival is wonderful and contributes. The poverty and jobs problems are not the fault of the festival and to link them is nonsense. Yes, they should be a priority... along with mending the understanding between Islam and other faiths. Please keep comments mature. To say the festival is "for nothing" is an insult to common sense.

Well said Fatima Zohra!

As a Fassi, I can say that we gain nothing from this event. Only protocol and snobbism. this is not a maneer to present Islam to western. It's even the opposit that happens.
Shalom, Paix & Salam to all the viewers.

Je ne suis pas d'accord avec vous tous. Le plus important pour moi c'est le changement et le developement c tous. Wa ssalam

If this festival want to posper, organizers have to stop giving badges to 75% of the audience who does not respect the artists specially in Bab al makina, there a lot of people moving and talking on their mobile, we can imagine that they are saving or changing the world but in fact they are just ditsturbing the clients who has paid 50euros for a concert. So this has to be stopped. Shukran bezzaf !!

Fez is a festival itself all the year long. This city needs investment not a fake festival like this for only dreamers or reach people who are not aware of the reality. Be aware please...

Mira said...

That last comment is foolish! It is not a fake festival. I save and come from Casa every year. I would not miss it. I am not dreamer. Fez is not a festival all year. It is a beautiful but poor place where people struggle, Yes investment... but please no more childish comments. I agree about people who get in free . They come for social reasons. Maybe the festival can stop giving so many tickets to sponsoring people who do not love the music.
My Fassi friends are medina people and they love so many people come and spend money in the medina. Please please stop stupid comments. Thank you for letting me speak on this.

Bravo Mira! Shukran bzaf.

This idea of the fez festival is out of date now. Same story, same thing every year. Need to think of a new concept. Creativity = Art & Culture. Think about it.... Please Do post this comment. Thanks. David

Any ideas of how you might do that. It is my observation that it has been evolving over the years, but fresh ideas are always a good thing.

Anonymous said...

The fresh idea is to work the infrastructure of the city instead of spending more than 1 million US dollar in this festival. Look what happened during the heavy rains. No comments. Pls add my comment. Thks!!

The music festival is a wonderful way to showcase the culture. However, I could never go back to Fez due to the disrespect and verbal abuse from the men on the street. Serious problem.

Mary said...

The last comment (about men on the street) is the most shallow comment I have ever heard. Moroccan men are generally very respectful and helpful people.

If you dress and behave in a sensible manner you will be always treated with respect.

It is OUTRAGEOUS that a so called "international festival" has not put the coming edition program in its website. This means that this 2013 edition will be as worst as the previous ones.
Fez and the all is in Fez except this garbage festival.

Thanks in advance for adding this comment.

Ibn Warraq said...

That last comment is only posted by The View from Fez to show the rudeness and ignorance of some people who hide behind anonymity

Again a very elitist festival. Very expensive for the Moroccan citizen. I prefer go to Essawira festival. Much better and free! View from fez publish this. Thanks

Ibn Warraq said...

Ibn says: anyone who thinks Patti Smith is elitist has been smoking too much kif! It's a great program with free events for the public.

Anonymous said...

And who put 50 Euros and 60 USD per concert has maybe snorted too much cocaine!!!. Please publish.

Nourideen said...

Anon - you need a reality check. In Europe Patti Smith the cheapest tickets are between 70 and 100 Euro or 92 and 120 USD.

In Toronto the cheapest ticket is $206 and at the art gallery are around $400

The tickets in Morocco are reasonably priced. And why worry about money when you get to hear and see artists of this quality???

Anonymous said...

Over 90% of Moroccans are paid around 500.00 USD per mounth. So Nourdeen, do your double reality check yourself. I agree with anon the price of this festival should definitely be reviewed. Otherwise it will remain elitist to many of Moroccans. Thanks for publishing.

Fes, not get paid? Come on, everybody knows Fassi's are the merchants of all Maroc.

Pascal said...

I agree with the last wise comment - very true.. the whole of Fes gets paid, the Festival is a huge plus for Fes and its people.
