African Lion-06

Morocco and the United States have concluded a military exercise which Morocco hosted in late May.

The biannual exercise is designed to promote military cooperation between Rabat and Washington as well as improving the skills of the Moroccan military.

Named, Exercise African Lion, it is a regularly scheduled, bilateral exercise for the U.S. and Moroccan ground forces to promote improved interoperability and mutual understanding of each nation's tactics, techniques and procedures.

Over the last two years, Morocco has increased its military and security cooperation with the United States. Officials say that the two countries have focused on intelligence exchange and training to combat the Al Qaida-aligned presence in North Africa.
