According to Employment and Vocational Training Minister, Jamal Rhmani, some 3,367 children were removed from the job market, while some 13,126 others were taken care of in 2007. Speaking at the House of Advisors' question time, Mr. Rhmani said government programmes, carried out in conjunction with the international programme for the Elimination of Child labour, have also supported income-generating activities for the families of these children, whose number reached 600 in 2007.Legislative and awareness-raising measures, in addition to field programs have helped Morocco achieve progress in fighting the phenomenon of child labour, he said.
According to official figures, the number of working children under 15 in Morocco is estimated at around 177,000.
