The 6th edition of the Marrakech Biennale will take place from March 2nd to 28th, 2016. It will take place on three emblematic places in Marrakech; the "Badii Palace", "Bank Al Maghreb" and the Palace "Dar El Bacha".
The 5th edition of the Marrakech Biennale took place, from February 28 to March 30, 2014, under the patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and was attended by over 450 artists including more than 100 Moroccan artists, and over 30,000 visitors. This result is of great significance to Marrakech and is welcomed by the Municipality of Marrakech and local authorities, such as the Ministry of Culture, who are both supporting the event with an annual grant.
However this grant remains a very small part of the budget. Despite private donations, the team is now tackling the challenge to find sufficient funds to ensure a continuance of the Biennale.
After 10 years, the Marrakech Biennale is undoubtedly an essential link in the current cultural
and artistic life of the Red City. For its sixth edition it has chosen the theme Traces and will examine the importance of culture and art and the dialogue between the city’s past, present and future. To do so it will draw on the cultural and African roots of the city: Islamic, Arab, Amazigh, Jewish, African and Iberian.
According to Executive President Mohamed Amine Kabbaj, digital and visual arts will be used in public spaces in order to interact between different disciplines; between the artist and the public; between the artist and the urban space. "This dialogue will be the cornerstone in the anchoring of these works, in our urban landscape, as well as ensuring their capacity to remain illusory", he says.
