The first edition of Nozhat Al Hakawati - storytelling festival - takes place between June 17th and 19th in Fez
There will be three different venues: Bab Boujloud Square, the ALIF Riad and the square at R'cif. The decision to use R'cif is a welcome one as this recently renovated public area is underused and perfect for music and performance events.
The festival is the initiative of the recently formed storytelling organisation - To The Horizon Association.
The Moroccan tradition of hikayat, or storytelling, dates back almost 1,000 years. Some stories were recorded and other stories are passed orally. Today this form of entertainment is in danger of becoming extinct.

The festival will also include a couple of musical performances. Friday night in R'cif Square the storytellers will be joined by Zahio, a group that emerged at the beginning of 2007. Four young musicians from different backgrounds : Two Gnaoua musicians, a former member of a Dutch Rai and a student from the National Conservatory of Fez and fan of reggae, came together in 2007 to produce their own fusion style. Zahio began their career playing at private parties and is now put the finishing touches to their debut album
