What many visitors to Fez never see is the vibrancy of the streets and public spaces, long after the last tourist bus has headed away from the Medina.
On Tuesday night we paused in Makhfiya Square and watched the street football matches and the social life of the Medina at night. The atmosphere in the square, behind Cinema Amal changes hour by hour, day by day and season by season. It is worth a visit, just as much as any number of historic monuments.
