The Heavy Rain Drenches Fez

Mid-afternoon on March 1st, the rain settled in and within minutes some streets and alleys in Fez were changed from pedestrian byways to rushing streams. The transformation was surprisingly quick and caught many people off-guard

However, the Fez Medina population are particularly hardy folk and it takes much more than flooded streets to keep them from going about their business, or attending their local mosque.

The problems of drainage have improved over the years, but the narrow streets and steep inclines exacerbate flooding in certain parts of the Medina.

It is fairly understandable that the happiest men in the Medina were those selling umbrellas.
