Marrakech - a shopping top ten?

Sometimes shopping is as much about the experience as it is about your individual finds. That’s definitely the case in Morocco, where maze-like souks are an exercise in cultural immersion. Hire a guide to take you through the medina in Marrakech. Although you should steel yourself for pushy sales pitches and fevered bargaining, the payoffs can be rich. Expect to find intricate hand-crafted jewelry, rugs and woven bags. - Forbes Traveller.
Under the headline -Elite shopping streets in the world's 10 best shopping districts - Colleen Clark, writing for Forbes Traveller lists the Medina of Marrakech as one of the ten top shopping districts in the world. Apart from the obvious fact that she missed the more interesting, diverse and larger Medina in Fez, one would have to question the word "elite". Still, as they say; "any publicity..."

And the others? Copenhagen's town centre, Buenos Aires, Bangkok, Shibuya in Tokyo, St Bath's in the Caribbean, Paris, London, New York and Los Angeles... ho hum.

I don't know about this one - while I don't really like the list itself, I don't think Fez even compares to Marrakech in terms of shopping! Sure, the medina is much larger, but most of the items for sale in Fez are more traditional or geared to tourists, whereas in Marrakech, Moroccan crafts are full of innovation. I've noticed that some of that is beginning to seep into Fez, but having shopped in both for the past few years, I'll take Marrakech's souqs any day.

Ouch! Well, I couldn't disagree more. Marakech's souq's are chocka with crap... and Fez is better by a long way. Moroccan crafts may be more traditional - but if the nonsense in 'kech is better we have a difference in taste. Taamarbuuta I usually agree with you - especially about Meknes - but the 'kech? GIVE ME A BREAK!

Mmmm - Fez does it for me. My last shopping trip in Marrakech was not such a good experience. Meknes would be better (evil grin)!

I enjoyed the roses in Marrakesh, for everything else I will take Fez and Rabat!

I had an interview with Expat and gave your excellent blog a couple of plugs. I thought you might want to give it a read.
