The Festival is here!

For ten days Fez holds the attention of the music world with its fabulous festival of sacred music. After a welcoming cocktail party at the Tazi Palace - an event put on by one of the major sponsors - the festival got underway last night.

The first concert featured William Christie and Les Arts Florissant. This was Baroque at its best and travelled from Mozart to Rameau, Mondonville and Rigel. All in all a splendid evening under the stars at the beautiful Bab Makina.

Today at 4.30 Cheikh Mohammed Sermini and the famous muezzin Hassan Haffar will perform at the Batha Museum. These two Syrian performers are a concert not to be missed; Tonight at the Bab Makinaz the strains of flamenco will ignite the crowd. Performing is Esperanza Fernandez. This will be followed by a musical conversation between Iran, Southern India and Mali. For the late night Sufi fanatics the Sufi Nights begin at the Tazi and go until very late. Enjoy! Reports on the concerts will follow tomorrow, inshallah.
