The Alegria Festival of Chefchaouen

Next to Fes, one of the most beautiful towns in Morocco ( and one of our favourites) is Chefchaouen. You don't really need an excuse to visit, but just to add to the temptation, the third Alegria Festival of Chefchaouen will take place on July 13-15. It is expected to be a great mix of music, cultural and artistic events.

The event is a joint project between the Agency for the Development of the North, Chefchaouen Province, Chefchaouen Municipality, the Moroccan Ministry of Culture and the Spanish Embassy.

This year the performers will include the Spanish artist Yuri Buenaventura, the local groups Alghiyata, El Bouardia and Dkaykia, Chico, the gipsy group, Hakim and the Spanish pop band Elbicho. If you are a fan of fllamenco the group Tchanelas is slated to play.

The festival will also include an exhibition of by four Moroccan artists from Tetuan - Safae Erruas, Hassan Echair, Batoul Shimi, Faouzi Laatires, as well as two Spanish artists, Diego Moya and Mon Montoya. The exhibition will include paintings, photos and objects.

But wait there's more! There will be two theatrical presentations by local troupes. Apinum will play “Moudakirat Chaîtaniya” (Evil Memories) and the Nadi Al Madina Assaghira troupe will play “Al Hakiba” (The Suitcase).

The programme also schedules a conference themed “To be young, creative and enterprising today” to encourage dialogue and exchange between researchers, students and young people.
