Located 15 kilometres from Agadir, an increasingly westernised city in the south-west of the country, Tamraght offers some of the most surfable waves in Morocco and is fast becoming a regular stop on the backpacker trail.
Although there are good waves to be had in the summer, better swells arrive between the months of August and May.
For beginners, a good starting point is the Endo Marokko surf camp, which sums up its philosophy as follows: "The stress of a non-surfing-all-day life just drops off and all that matters is to pull in the face of the wave."
Equipment is available for hire so there is no need to lug a board all the way from the UK, and accommodation is in a traditional Moroccan house with a kitchen and lounge with TV.
A two-week stay in a shared room costs from £280.
And up the coast at Essaouira...

The movie is based on Texas congressman Charlie Wilson's covert dealings in Afghanistan, where his efforts to assist rebels in their war with the Soviets have some unforeseen and long-reaching effects.
Well, the shooting is taking place in Morocco & that's exactly where Julia Roberts is! And it seems she did find time to have a few calm moments with her hubby and twins ... They were all spotted having some time off on the beaches of Essaouira.
