Atlas Blue nets 143 million USD
Atlas Blue was set up on May 28, 2004 for the purpose of flying certain routes to and from Moroccan provinces and to and from tourist markets and according to the company, Morocco's low-cost airliner netted a USD 143Mn turnover in 2006, i.e. a 27 % increase compared to 2005.
This performance is mainly due to the company's efforts to expand its network and regularize its flights that have reached 60 weekly flight rotations, said the national flag carrier "Royal Air Maroc" affiliate, noting that the company carried some 902,000 passengers in 2006.
As to regular flights, "Atlas Blue" achieved an 81% increase in flights number in 2005-2006 while its turnover doubled.
Touching on charter flights, "Atlas Blue" noted that the company operates essentially in the French market, followed by Italy and Hungary.
Atlas Blue, which is based in Marrakech Airport, owns 8 aircraft and is planning to launch a takeover bid to expand its fleet to 18 planes. Atlas Blue announced has also announced that it will launch an international tender to purchase new generation aircraft, as part of the plan to increase its fleet by 2013. Atlas Blue is a subsidiary of state owned Moroccan Airlines.
