Morocco's Jews & Muslims pray for rain.
As Morocco's drought continues Moroccan Jewish communities joined Muslim counterparts to pray for rain. Leaders of Morocco's Jews called on their congregations to pray on Saturday for rain. This followed the same call during Muslim prayers on Friday.
According to a council statement released on Friday... "The Council of Moroccan Jewish Communities is asking worshippers up and down the country to unite in prayer on Saturday."
Earlier this week the ministry of Islamic affairs had asked Muslim worshippers to pray for rain on Friday after the country experienced a 27 percent drop in rainfall during the last quarter of 2006.
In its request the ministry evoked a passage from the Koran which calls for prayer "each time rain is scarce and there is urgent need for it to be sent".
However, according to the weather forecast, more prayers will be needed as there is no rain in sight.
