A new online Moroccan site has a novel introduction to Darija ( Moroccan Arabic) The wily woman behind it keeps you hooked by giving you a "word a day". For example, all ex-President Clinton historians will be amused to learn that "Monîka" means simply doll!

Monîka: Undefined feminine singular.
Lmonîka: Defined feminine singular.
Monîkât: Undefined feminine plural.
Lmonîkât: Defined feminine plural. -

Blog News - Fez

Sadly, the bloggers in Fez are taking it easy at the moment, so there is not much to report. Louis da Fez is still chasing his plasterers, Jon & Jenny appear to be hibernating. Happily the folks at Dar Mystere Fez have been out and about, investigating ... "Palace l'Istiqlal, one of the buildings off the area near Hotel Batha, one door up from the Maison Bleu restaurant. This is the place where the declaration of independence was signed in the mid '50s, ending French colonial rule. The sort of place you'd think was preserving. A cracking hotel location. Again, a few pieces of silver and you can give yourself a little guided tour."

Blog News - outside of Fez

In our neighbouring city of Meknes, the Morocco Report has the news that Meknes is to be Morocco's First "Town Without Shanties" and also has an interesting blog roundup.

Outside of Fez, in the wild city of Rabat, Cat in Rabat's blog is one year old - Marbruka Cat!

Liosliath is also enjoying the Moroccan "word a day" site, but like us, a little confused by the transliteration.

Eatbees blog has a fascinating look at the sanctuary of Moulay Abdeslam Ben M’chich and points out that "learning about Moulay Abdeslam isn’t like plucking a magazine from a newsrack." - too true! Check out the post here: Sacred Space

In the great metropolis of Casablanca, Laila Lalami has published an excerpt of her review of Marjane Satrapi's novel Chicken with Plums. Laila also blogs about the Nichane case.

And Marrakech? Well, we couldn't pass by the opportunity to link to the Maryam's teasing headline in the wickedly stylish My Marrakesh: Moroccan Eye Candy.

Finally, the wonderful Farah Kinani has a great wrap-up of the Moroccan Blogosphere that is worth reading. Freedom of the press and Saddam Hussein in the Moroccan blogosphere
