Some 800,000 Spanish tourists are expected in Morocco by 2010, - twice the figures reported in 2006, according to the Managing Director of the Moroccan Tourism Office, Abbas Azzouzi.
Tourist arrivals from Spain rose 17% in 2006, Azzouzi announced at the 7th Euro-Mediterranean Forum, underlining that the new low cost airlines will consolidate the neighborhood advantage between the two countries.
To accompany this increasing demand, said Azzouzi, Morocco will consolidate the traditional destinations, promote new tourism formulas and improve Morocco's image in Spain.
Morocco's efforts are part of an ambitious strategy dubbed "Vision 2010" to attract some ten million tourists by the end of the decade.

Lol! When I read "the Spanish are coming" I thought we were about to invade Morocco or something... I am Spanish and I have visited Morocco a few years ago. It's definetely worth visiting, especially for us, Spanish people, since so many of our new residents and citizens are originally from Morocco. There are some things to improve though, I would make some shopkeepers-vendors aware that some times they are too persistent and can make tourists a bit tired. Otherwise congratulations on the effort to modernize yet keeping the Moroccan flavour to most of your towns/cities/places.
