A quiet Friday in the Fez Medina

The top of the Ta'aa Sghira minus the usual crowds

Fridays are the most peaceful days in the Medina, with many of the shops in the souq closed while people attend mosques and spend time with their families. A perfect time to stroll around without the usual bustle. Today was a perfect day - cool and crisp.

A family Friday stroll

Relaxed but secure in Batha.

Yet one thing that doesn't stop is the flow of tourist buses coming to either R'cif or Batha where they disgorge their load of tourists - not a lot for them to see, except the snaking line of tourists coming in the other direction. Even though much of the souq is closed there is still plenty of security provided - not so much because it is needed, but rather it does make the tourists feel better!

While the buses are safe and sound and the tourists are deep in the alleys and lane ways, the cafe's are doing a brisk trade with the locals. Friday is not just a good day for a walk but and even better one to simply sit and watch the Medina life go by.

And, while you maybe enjoying the people watching - don't forget to look up from time to time as there is beauty all around - even in a simple lamp.
