Returning to Fez

Returning to Fez is a little like being reborn. Suddenly all the reasons that you love the Medina come into sharp focus. As you drive through the new city and get your first glimpse of the lights on the walls of the Medina you know that very soon you will be on foot, weaving your way through the narrow lanes and alleys.

So it was for my return. The smell of cooking, of spices of the souq in a melange that is indescribable wafted on the cool night breeze. Somewhere there was music. Drumming, a trumpet... And everywhere people. Familiar faces wreathed in smiles, hands extended in greeting. And talk. Have you heard the news? Have you seen so and so... how long it seems you were away. The phone rings. Did you know there is a new Royal baby?

Then the first bowl of bessara with a round of bread. Suddenly you know you are home.

And, just to top it off, someone has arranged a total eclipse of the moon. I am reborn.
