Some time ago residents of the Fez Medina protested about the light pollution caused by huge neon signs on the front of the Hotel Merinides. Then, to the relief of everyone, they were switched off.
Sadly, we must report that they are back, albeit with a change of colour. Now, while we were happy to suggest that visitors to Fez avail themselves of the spectacular view from the terrace of the hotel - this is no longer the case. Once again Medina folk are calling for people to stay away until the offensive lights are removed.
The usual soft almost burnished glow of the Medina at night can be a breathtaking sight for visitors and now it is once again disturbed by the garish neon signs and a row of lights below the hotel that appear to be directed into the Medina.
How many times will people have to protest before the hotel gets it? We don't want light pollution in the Medina.
