Internet growth in Morocco

According to Rachid Talbi El Alami, the Minister in charge of Economic and General Affairs, the number of internet subscribers in Morocco continues to grow at a very healthy rate. Up to March this year the number had reached 433,399, an increase of 8.4% compared to December of the previous year, and a 37.2% increase compared to the same period of 2006.

While the growth rate for mobiles is not as great, the penetration of the market is impressive with the number of mobile phone users reaching 17.126 million.

This increase in phone and Internet subscribers is attributed to the decreasing cost of the services as a result of the the privatization of the telecommunications sector, a move that, according to the minister, has had positive outcomes in the economic and social fields.
