1200 anniversary of Fez celebrated in Geneva


Several cultural and artistic events were held in Geneva on Thursday to mark the twelve hundredth anniversary of the Foundation of the city of Fez.

The event, held both in the United Nations Palace and the University of Economic and Social Sciences, was organized by the Moroccan Mission to Geneva's UN office and the kingdom's Embassy in Switzerland in concert with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Moroccan American Cultural Centre of Los Angeles.

The ceremony held in the UN palace was marked by a private view of a painting exhibition by Moroccan artists Ali Lagrouni and Aziz Bousetta, and a

musical evening animated by Musical group Moultaqa Salam and Rachida Talal.

Speaking during this exhibition that continues until November 10, Morocco's representative to the UN office at Geneva, Mohamed Loulichki, underlined the spirit of tolerance, comprehension and dialogue prevailing among the inhabitants of Fez.

Earlier, U.N. Deputy director general in charge of cultural affairs had underlined, in an address, that this evening showcases the values of respect, openness to others and solidarity which characterize Morocco.

The 1200 anniversary of Fez will be also celebrated in Paris and Brussels.
