More Moroccan Festivals

Not only does the Fes Festival of Sufi Culture start today (16h00 at the Batha Museum), but The View from Fez has details of two other festivals for your diary.

The 4th Festival of Desert Music will take place from 24-26 May in Errachidia, with the aim of developing tourism in the oases. It will feature musicians from Morocco and further afield, giving the public an opportunity to explore desert cultures with their various types of music, instruments and customs.

Concerts will be held in Errachdia, Rissani and Merzouga, and there will also be discussions. See more information here.

The 7th International Conference of the Tijania Sufi Brotherhood will take place from 19-21 June in Fez and has as its theme 'Peace & Human Development'.

This brotherhood has followers all over central and northern Africa, and is likely to draw a large crowd. Read the The View from Fez story about this group here. Points of discussion will include symbolism and numerology in the Qu'ran, Muslim women and Peace and Perspectives on World Development & Peace for the Youth. There will be photography and calligraphy exhibitions, and plenty of music. The events take place at the delightful Riad Alkantara in Derb Oued Souaffine.
