Traditional Art Gallery Opens in the Fez Medina

Thursday is the official opening of Chez Mehdi
- Galerie d'Art Traditional du Maroc.

This should be quite an exciting event and our sources tell us that Rue Ahmed Mekouar will be closed for a parade which will include the fabulous Shire horses for which the owner, Mehdi Msefer, is famous.

A gorgeous traditional burnous.

The View from Fez was given a sneak preview of some of the treasures on display and can report that this gallery has some exceptionally fine items. The rugs, carpets, clothing and jewellery were all of the highest quality. You will find the gallery at 1 bis Rue Ahmed Mekouar in Batha.

The Gallerie Chez Mehdi contains a wide range of items that includes works or art, calligraphy, fabric and some vibrant framed photographs by Gérard Chemit.

Among objects that caught our eye was a the lamp (pictured below) and the collection of Berber jewellery.

The official opening is on Thursday April 26 at 6 pm and all visitors to Fez are welcome.
