Head of terrorist ring sentenced to life imprisonment
Salé - This week the court of appeals of Salé sentenced Abdelkader Belliraj, the prime suspect in the dismantled Belliraj terrorist ring, to life imprisonment on charges of "disturbing the state's internal security and premeditated murder."

The charges also include "forming a criminal gang to plot and carry out terrorist acts as part of a collective project to seriously undermine public order through intimidation, violence and terror," "attempted premeditated intentional manslaughter," "aggravated theft and attempted aggravated theft," and "illegal possession of weapons and explosives."
The court sentenced seven co-accused to 30 years in prison each.
It also sentenced Mustapha Mouatassim, Secretary General of the dissolved "Al Badil Al Hadari", his deputy Mohamed Amine Regala, and Mohamed Merouani, head of the unrecognised "Ummah" Party, to 25 years in jail each.
It gave 20 years in prison to Alaa Badella Ma-El Ainin, member of the Justice and Development party (PJD), and Abdelhafid Sriti, Al Manar satellite TV channel correspondent in Morocco.
The other defendants got prison terms ranging between one suspended year and 15 years in prison.
The 35-member network, which was broken up in February 2008, was reportedly targeting political figures, Moroccans of Jewish confession and high-ranking officials.
Police had found out arms caches including ammunition and detonators in Casablanca and Nador (northeast).
Equatorial Guinea's President donates one million Euro to support Morocco's anti-poverty program.
Rabat - President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema, has donated one million Euro to support Morocco's large-scale anti-poverty program, the National Initiative for Human Development.
"As Part of its brotherly and friendly relations with the Kingdom of Morocco, the President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema has decided to donate 1 million euro in support of INDH projects," said a government spokesperson.
At the same time,H.M. King Mohammed VI announced that he was giving new impetus to the anti-poverty program. In the State of the Nation Address from the Tangier on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Throne Day, H.M. the King said he was determined that projects undergo proper assessment and monitoring and he would be focusing on small projects which create jobs and provide steady income.
"In order to make this initiative more tangible, I have seen to it that the citizen is both the engine for and the ultimate objective of all the initiatives launched, as well as of reforms and development projects," said the monarch. "My satisfaction with the initial results is second only to my resolve to make sure the difficulties or hurdles that may be impeding this major project are tackled effectively."
"Comprehensive development, as I see it, is based on the close link between higher growth rates and fair distribution of the dividends of progress. I consider it to be a process which makes social cohesion the ultimate objective of human development and of economic efficiency," H.M. the King went on to say.
Rockfall kills four, injures two southern Morocco
Agadir - Four people died and two others were seriously injured after the collapse of a cliff overhanging the Tifnit beach in the rural commune of Sidi Bibi, 40 km of the southern city of Agadir.
According to local reports, the rockfall, of around five tons, instantly killed a 6-year-old girl, a 10-year-old boy, a teenage girl,17, and a woman, 55. Locals say that the two injured victims were transferred to a nearby hospital.
Four die as train ploughs into car in Khouribga
Khouribga - Four people died on Friday evening after a train hit a taxi on an unmanned level crossing in Khouribga (205 Km south of Rabat). According to local authorities, the taxi driver and his three passengers - a woman and her two daughters - were killed on the spot.
Moroccan movie wins Grand Prix of Khouribga African Festival
Khouribga - The Moroccan film "Zaman Al-Rifak" (Time of Friends), produced by Mohamed Charif Tribak, won the Grand Prix Ousmane Sembène of the 12th African Film Festival of Khouribga.
The film, which was produced in 2008, tells the story of a student who decided, against her parents' will, to pursue university studies.
She finds out the growing influence of Islamists at the university. A handful of union militants try to resist. Saïd engaged in a heated battle, winning the girl’s heart, but she was not prepared to seriously engage with him.
Twelve feature-length films from nine countries competed for the Grand Prix.
Along with the official competition, the event screened films and organized training workshops. Books on cinema were also presented. The festival paid tribute to the oeuvre of the late Egyptian film producer Youssef Chahine.

A short respite from the hot weather.
Residents of Fez who have been sweltering in temperatures around 40 degress Celsius can expect a couple of days of cooler weather - though only marginally. The next two days should see night time temperatures drop to between 14 and 16 degrees. Daytime temperatures will be in the high thirties. By Thursday the temperatures will again hit forty degrees.
