The Ninth Marrakesh Film Festival

Once again it is time to make a note in your diary, arrange travel and book a room in Marrakesh. The ninth Marrakesh Film Festival starts its nine day season on December 4.

Prince Moulay Rachid will again preside over the festival with the French public relations firm, Le Public Systeme doing the organising. Marrakesh will be the place to be for not only the films, but the after-show parties.

While the Marrakech Festival screens some of the world’s best cinema, it has also been making efforts to help the local cinema industry take the place of the now sinking – but once flourishing - Egyptian show business. As Bruno Barde, Marrakech’s Artistic Director and head of the Le Public Systeme, has said “the Festival is a great opportunity for Moroccan directors and scriptwriters to learn how to fish”.

According to an article in the Hindustani Times, Morocco, though a tiny producer with about 25 movies or so a year, it is undoubtedly far ahead of others in Africa, such as Tunisia or Algeria or Lebanon or even Egypt.
