The View from Fez owes thanks to Yacout.info for an update on the Marrakech art scene. We would also like to congratulate Mohamed Zkhiri and the hard workers at Yacout on its second birthday. Since arriving on the net, the site has proved to be a valuable.

As Mohamed Zkhiri says, "We are two years old today and are happy to announce that the feedback from our readers is very positive about what we are writing. We continue, as we promised, our coverage of culture and the arts which is booming in Morocco. We think this is important for our society and the world.

We are happy to see that English readership is increasing in Morocco. We will continue our coverage of the cultural world and Morocco's wonderful heritage and traditions which are very much alive, the Gnaoua Festival and Music of the World in Essaouira 24-27 June and The National Festival of Popular Arts in Marrakech 16-24 July are fine examples of this cultural richness. We look forward to more of your comments as this interaction is key to our continuing success as are the articles which some of you have sent us, please keep them coming." You can read more HERE

National Festival of Popular Arts.

The 45th National Festival of Popular Arts (FNAP) will be held from July 16 to 24 in Marrakech, under the theme "Musical Mosaics of Patrimony".

Placed under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, this cultural and artistic event, considered the oldest in Morocco, showcases the folk heritage from all regions of the Kingdom.

For this edition, the Foundation of Marrakech Festivals has prepared a rich and varied program reflecting the rich musical heritage which will transform the city into a festive atmosphere.

The FNAP, which this year celebrates its 45th anniversary, has contributed effectively to the development and preservation of folk arts.

The Winter Biennale

The Winter-Biennale Fair of Marrakech is a venue for discovering established artists and new talent. Its goal is to be a biannual event for professionals and artists to promote contemporary art in Morocco.

The organizers will renew the experience of the first edition by inviting more Moroccan and foreign galleries and foundations to come together for four days in Marrakech to exhibit the works of the artists they represent.

The exhibition area and the number of participating galleries will be doubled this year. Twelve galleries will be invited to participate in this edition. A thousand square meters of space on two floors will host the event. Round tables, conferences, and workshops will be conducted in the same venue of the fair.

In addition to the spaces reserved for galleries, a space will be devoted to meetings and appointments between the professionals who wish to hold meetings on the sidelines of the exhibition.

The 2nd Winter-Biennale Fair of Marrakech will be held from 16 to 19 December 2010.
