Jazz in Rabat

The 16th Jazz au Chellah Festival will be held in Rabat from 15-18 June.

On the programme are the Portico Quartet from the UK, Talking Horns from Germany, the Emile Parisien Quartet from France and the Elifantree Trio from Finland and Sweden, as well as plenty of other groups from across Europe. In fact, there are ten bands and 40 artists from 13 different countries who will also be joined by Moroccan musicians. They will play before the beautifully lit old buildings of the Chellah in central Rabat.

The second day is dedicated to women artists, featuring Iva Bittova from the Czech Republic, and Michaela Rabitsch from Austria who's described as a female Chet Baker complete with trumpet, and who will appear with Nabila Maan on vocals, Tarik Hilal on guitar and Mohamed Amrani on drums.

Concerts start at the Chellah at 20h00 each evening and are amazingly well-priced: Dh30 per person and Dh10 for students. See www.jazzauchellah.com for more information.
