Tangier gets into festival mode



The third Tarab Tanger Festival will be held from 22-26 June, celebrating world traditional music. The festival has as its theme Crossed Paths, and its aim is to reveal traditional music from across the world. There will be groups from India, Iran, Spain, Portugal, France, Bulgaria and Morocco.

Amongst the artists are Jorge Fernando et Angelo Freire (Portugal), the Mohamed Rouicha Ensemble (Atlas region of Morocco), the Nedyalkov Ensemble from Bulgaria and Keyvan Chemirani from Iran.

Concerts will be held in the Tangier Medina at Borj el-Hajoui, the Kasbah Museum and the Mendoubia as well as various other venues. Various exhibitions of paintings and sculpture will also be presented. For more information, see www.tarabtanger.com.

MEDITERRANEAN NIGHTS

Then there's the 11th annual Mediterranean Nights Festival that will take place from 30 June to 4 July. The nights are full of music, from Nass el Ghiwane, Morocco's favourite group, to Afel Bocoum from Mali and Alejandrias from Spain. The Festival takes place at the Palais des Institutions Italiennes (ph 05 39 93 91 46).
