Tangier Booming With Transit Passengers

According to Ahmed Ouqebli, the Harbour Master of the Tangier Port, more than 966,000 passengers and 161,651 passed through Tangier during the first eight months of 2016

456,246 passengers and 75,373 vehicles returned to Morocco via the crossing during this period, while going out were 509,848 passengers and 86,278 vehicles.

The four fast ferries serving the shipping line Tanger-Tarifa has reached 2,882 rotations, from 1 January to 31 August, said Mr. Ouqebli, noting that since the beginning of the "Marhaba" operation 2016, June 5 until August 31, all vessel traffic stopped for 10 days due to the closure of the port of Tarifa, due to bad weather.

Tangier also recorded the docking of 18 cruise ships among the largest in the world, some of which have made more than one trip, with some 68,100 cruise passengers on board.

Tangier should experience large crowds during the second week of September, which coincides with the celebration of the feast of Eid al-Adha.
