A second week of protest in Morocco
A national march will be staged on Friday after Al Asr (afternoon) prayer to protest the blasphemous cartoons of Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) that were first published in a Danish paper, then reproduced by a number of European newspapers. Unlike last week's demonstrations this week the organisers include political parties, unions and ordinary citizens who have called for the march that will start in Rabat at Bab El-Had and end in Bab Rouah.
Last Friday, hundreds of Moroccans staged a sit-in to condemn the publication of the caricatures which they described as insulting to Muslim symbols and beliefs. They chanted slogans accusing the western publications of spreading "hatred," asking those responsible for such acts to present their excuses to the Muslim world.
Demonstrations in Morocco have differed from others in the Middle East in having not degenerated into violence and arson.
