Filming the cuisine of Fez

More astute Medina watchers will have noticed a film crew working their way around the Medina. They would also have seen they were not filming all the normal tourist monuments and historic buildings - but rather the vegetable and spice souqs.

The crew is making a program about the cuisine of Fez and concentrating on the cooking style of our friend Lahcen Beqqi (pictured below).

For some time now Lahcen has been providing cooking lessons for tourists visiting Fez and showing them how to prepare both local and regional dishes.

The film crew are being assisted by Karima from The View from Fez. Karima is translating and arranging local contacts for them and, according to the crew, they could not be happier with her enthusiasm and efficiency.

Here is what previous visitors have said about Lahcen's cooking lessons:
"Your cooking class was fantastic! It was one of our best experiences in Fes and one of the best cooking classes that we have taken anywhere in the world! ... You also made sure that we really experienced Fez - which is exactly what we wanted to do!"
-Debra Dout, Monterey, CA

"Our sincere thanks for not only a wonderful lesson on Moroccan cuisine, but for a total Fes culinary experience. Your knowledge of the markets for just the right ingredients, outstanding culinary skills and great humor gave us a terrific experience that we relate to all our friends."
- David Burns
