You have been misinformed, Bell-arge is the dareeja for stork, The other word you mention is close to the classic arabic.

Thanks George. Yes, we knew that, but all our locals call them "lac-lac".

I call them both! Lac lac & bill-arge. Ilike lac-lac as it is the sound they make.

Hah, theres a big bird like that on top of a Masjid in meknes; It's fascinating!
