The state-run Moroccan National Railways Authority (ONCF) has received a double-decker electric train, the first in a series of 24 trains to be delivered to Morocco under a 200-million Euro agreement with the Italian company, Ansaldo Breda, ONCF announced here Friday.
The train, which arrived in Casablanca (100 km south of Rabat), will be subjected to three months performance and endurance tests before being commission into service, the railway firm said in a statement.
It said the rest of the trains would be delivered from October 2006 to August 2007 at the rate of two trains per month.
The double-decker trains will replace the current Rapid Shuttle Trains plying the Casablanca-Rabat line.
The authority explained that the new trains would provide comfort and "undeniable advantages" in terms of capacity to carry many passengers, notably at peak hours.
