Meknes - Volubilis Festival Opens Tomorrow

Finding out about the FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL DE VOLUBILIS is a daunting task. In fact, if it were not for the solitary poster spotted by an eagle-eyed member of The View from Fez poster-spotting team, we would not have known it was taking place. For the record it runs from the 15th to the 20th.

Once we confirmed that the Volubilis Festival is now the Meknes-Volubilis Festival, we were pretty much at a dead end. No programme could be found and locals told us that there was "some kind of opening party in Volubilis... then it all happens in Meknes." - Fine, but "what all happens"?

Of course, the internet would provide the answer. No. The festival site proudly displayed the proster for the 7th edition Festival and this year it should have been the 12th. It was a bit like playing "where's Wally?".

Then came our only breakthrough. A solitary Myspace page told us that perhaps Imidiwen would be playing Meknes. Our spirits rose further when an Imidiwen groupie told us that there would be two gigs - Tue, Jul 19 at 9:00 PM – Wed, Jul 20 at 10:30 PM.

For those who don't know Imidiwen, they are a great mix of musical styles. Imagine Mali meets the Mediteranean... Toureg meets Frenchman...and much more. It will be worth a trip to Meknes to hear them

If anyone has more info... or if you go to the Festival, we would love to hear from you and publish your photographs.

That was the point of the article. Nobody, not even people living in Meknes seem to know and the website is five years out of date!
